If you are looking for a multi-day road race for kids on the UK mainland, look no further than the excellent North West Youth Junior Tour, a round of the National Youth Circuit Series. #TeamHUP took the trip north to Lancashire at the end of August to take part in the annual closed-road racing for the U12 age group and above.

Based on Morecambe Promanade, Day 1 on the Saturday is the Prologue. A pan-flat seafront out-and-back time trial with the running order in alphabetical order. Results decide the following days Jersey riders and the Top 10 grid, based on GC position. The 'hot seat' for the current category leader is superb!

Day 2 on the Sunday was time for the Hilly Crit. A closed-road loop of approx 3.5km located just outside Lancaster, which included a serious climb up Daisy Bank. Once over the top of the hill, some very fast descending back towards the start area. U12's did 3 laps, older categories did more. This was a rare experience for kids of this age, a realistic British road race with climbing. They loved it.

The final Day 3 on the Bank Holiday Monday was another closed-road criterium located near Preston, using some technical country lanes, narrow and rough in places - presenting more unique challenges. High winds featured this year.

The award ceremonies took place on the podium after each days stage, with excellent online results published soon after the different age categories finished. Cakes for sale too ;-)

The organising team were a very friendly bunch and ran a great event in some pretty tricky weather conditions. Thanks to all the volunteers for creating a good fun Bank Holiday weekend's racing. This is defiantly in the diary for a return trip.
